Tug McGraw, Mets & Phillies Relief Pitcher, Autograph $1.00 FRN, Series 1977-A

The note is signed by former New York Met's &. Philadelphia Phillie's Relief Pitcher, Frank Edwin "Tug McGraw" Jr.

Tug was signed as an amateur free agent by the New York Mets upon his graduation from college on June 12, 1964. He spent the remainder of the 1964 season in the Mets Minor League Farm system, making the Mets Team after Spring Training of 1965. Tug was both a Starting Pitcher and a Reliever, but certainly best known for his Relief Pitching in 1973, where his leadership helped get the Mets to the World. Tug coined the slogan "Ya Gotta Believe" after a team meeting on July 8, 1973 with the Mets in last place.

They rallied around him, and made it to the 1973 World Series, only to loose to the Oakland Athletics in game 7. Tug was traded to the Philadelphia Phillies in December of 1974, and was a key relief pitcher with them for 10 seasons. During the 1980 season, he helped Philadelphia get to the World Series, and was responsible for striking out the last batter, Willie Wilson of the Kansas City Royals in Game 6, giving the Philadelphia Phillies their first World Series Championship. I obtained this note from a gentleman named Earl, a Philadelphia Phillies season ticket holder, along with other currency based items. Apparently they had some kind of Autograph Day for the ticket holders, and he got Tug's signature there. The note is signed in a blue medium point sharpie, with the ink bleeding through to the reverse slightly. I grade this note Choice Uncirculated, but look at the scans to determine the grade for yourself.

The note has nice sharp corners and excellent centering. The Treasury signatures on this note are. Treasurer of The United States.

This note would make a fine example for someone collecting New York Mets. And / or Philadelphia Phillies autographs or just sports autographs in general. Tug McGraw autographs are certainly not rare on Baseballs or Baseball Cards.

Try finding one on a Crisp Uncirculated Banknote! Please watch for my other Philadelphia based Sports Autographs that I will be putting up from the same group. Good Luck & Happy Hunting!
